Coffee Talk with Nadine…Write Or Die

50,000 words in 30 days! DAAAAAMMMMIIIITTTT!!!! Seriously? Yes, Virginia, seriously.

I am the founder and President of Write or Die.

A small group of amateur writers set out to enhance our own skills while encouraging others.

We meet bi-weekly to share what we are working on and to have fun with the bi-weekly assignment. Usually the assignment is centered around the seasons; like My first day of school, assorted Halloween topics, Thankfulness/Gratitude/Ingratitude or All I Want For Christmas Is?…You get it. It’s just fluff. Empty headed superfluous babble to get the juices flowing and write something real.

Once, recently the assignment was 250 words or less. One of our group members, I’ll call her Irene (her trailer park name) to protect her identify, asked why the 250 words. She stated she was having trouble staying with that number. So, I told her, like my high school teacher once told us; A story should be like a woman’s skirt, short enough to be interesting, yet long enough to cover the subject. Word.

NaNoWriMo is the 50,000 words assignment. NaNoWriMo is a month long challenge/contest? to write a novel in 30 days. Yes! That’s 1,666.666666666 words per day if you are one of those anal retentive types. Raises hand. And yet, I haven’t met my mark due to vacation prep and life happening all over the place.

But I’m not stressed. I’ll catch up, today, I’m sure, since I’ll be held hostage in a 10’ U-haul trailer for a 5 hour drive down to the coast for a bike rally. Life, aka rain, has modified the plan somewhat, but we’re adapting. The trailer will get us there and we will ride back. And I’ll get my write in. So, it has worked out like it should.

Write Or Die.

50,000 words with only 46,315 to go. Hey! I’ve got 26 days left to do it in. I’m good.

50,000ingly yours,

Coffee Talk with Nadine…Off The Grid

Have you ever wanted to just check out for a while? Life and obligations have you tied up in knots.

Longing for a relaxing day, week or month where you didn’t have to be accountable to anyone but yourself. Lost in mindless activities.

But you are so tied to these electronic leashes called Facebook, I-phone, I-pad, email, et. al?

Why don’t you join me?

Give yourself an adult time out. Challenge yourself to find some quiet time and reconnect with what gives you balance and purpose. Is it gardening? Reading? Riding? Painting? Dancing? Writing?

Separate yourself from a world rigged to distract you.

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.” ~ Isaiah 30:15

I’m taking myself off the grid to write for 30 days. A lofty goal. And I’ll admit I’m having a few withdrawals to the usual routine. I had no idea it would take such a concentrated effort since I’m so used to reaching for my phone before I reach for my coffee (Caffeine, it’s crazy, I Know!) and checking in with what my kids, family and friends are doing. But it’s an adjustment I’m willing to make.

At least for 30 days.

Now, back to writing. Only 48,290 words to go!

Disconnectedly yours,

Coffee talk with Nadine…Right Where You’re Supposed to Be!

NaNoWriMo= National Novel Writing Month.

That’s me. Right where I’m supposed to be. I’ll be writing Book 2 in a series of 7.

For the next 30 days I will be on a hiatus from everything. From housework to shopping and all things in between except sleep and work. Thank you, in advance, Jose’ for picking up my slack.

My goals are to write 50,000 words in 30 days, win the writing contest and find a publisher. Not only for Book 2, now in progress at 1,633 words per day; but for Book 1 already completed.

So, Facebook, with exception of one daily post from www.peaceloveandtrailerparks.com Coffee talk with Nadine and the occasional Today’s Mantra…I’m ok, but we’re ‘on a break.’

And I’m right where I am supposed to be. And it feels great!

Novelly yours,
